London Lights up to Welcome Ramadan

As the Holy Month of Ramadan arrives, for the first time in history, London lights up to welcome Ramadan.

Ramadan is a spiritual time for Muslims. As a month which symbolises dedication, reflection and discipline, Ramadan allows us to shield ourselves from sin through fasting.

For the first time in history, London’s iconic West End has been decorate this year to mark the holy Islamic month of Ramadan.

London’s Coventry Street, which connects Piccadilly and Leicester Square, two of the city’s busiest points, has been lit up with moon and star lights ahead of Ramadan.

These lights are called ‘fanos’ which are commonly used to decorate the streets during the month of Ramadan in the Middle East, especially in Egypt.

London’s West End is a popular destination for shopping and tourism, and it is not unusual to see an influx of wealthy Gulf tourists during the month of Ramadan.
