Gofrixty [29 July 2025] – In a significant development, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has killed three militants belonging to the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in an encounter in Karachi. These militants were the brains behind the fatal attack on Chinese engineers that occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa last year.
The raid was carried by CTD in the dead of night in Manghopir in Karachi upon a confirmed intelligence tip-off. The operation took several hours and culminated in a brutal gunfight. All three attackers were gunned down. A key player among them was a mastermind who was involved in the planning and execution of a suicide attack, which resulted in the killing of five Chinese nationals and one Pakistani driver.
The CTD team also seized weapons, hand grenades, suicide jackets and a notebook containing names of future targets. The terrorists were perceived by the investigators to have penetrated from across the Afghan border, and to have found a secure haven in Karachi. One of the dead militants had earlier been listed as a most-wanted terrorist with a bounty on his head.
