Fawad Chaudhry, Federal Minister for Science and Technology said in a press conference today that Shawal moon will be visible today (Saturday) in Pakistan, and the Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated tomorrow (Sunday i.e. 24 May 2020).

Addressing to the press conference, Federal Minister, Fawad Chaudhry, slammed to the different groups of the Islamic Ideology who are being accommodated by the state government on the basis of showing irrelevant power and authority. He added that accommodating the needs and demands of these groups have turned religion in different sects which is completely unacceptable for future endeavours.

Fawad Chaudhry also mentioned that the Ruet-e-Halal committee (Pakistan’s official moon-sighting body) is set to sight the moon today (Saturday) and it’s expected that Pakistan will celebrate Eid-al-Fitr along with other parts of the world like Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Indonesia, US, and the UK.

In Pakistan, Eid is usually celebrated in two different days. Different areas of the Khaiber Pakhtoon Khwa (KPK) and FATA celebrate Eid one day earlier to the rest of the country. Considering to the moon sighting issue, minister, Fawad Chaudhry stated that the State’s law and the constitution of the country should be taken precedence over factions. Whereas, moon sighting has no longer an issue which may not be resolved.

A Big Question regarding Moonsighting issue

Adding to the statement, Fawad Chaudhry also stated that in a few years, different Space and technology organization will have a frequent and long resided journey to the moon in the next 10 years. People will be going to stay on the moon for a longer period of time, as science and technology growing rapidly. So, in that case how people who would stay on the moon, during the moon mission will celebrate Eid or any other Islamic event which is decided on the sighting of the moon?

Federal Minister, Fawad Chaudhry added that Islam is a forward-looking religion. It started with the word “Iqra” which means to read. Islam is the religion purely based on knowledge, logic, science, and technology. As, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said Seek Knowledge even if you have to go as far as China”, the minister mentioned.

Furthermore, minister also explained the science behind the sighting of the moon. He also added that in Saudi Arabia, if moon is sighted in Makkah and Medina territories, they declare and implement it on the whole country. Similarly, this is also possible here in Pakistan that we must observe the special day all together on a one common day.

So, Minister said that it is expected that this time Pakistan will celebrate Eid-al-Fitr on 24th May 2020, tomorrow with the other parts of the world. The rest will depend on the Ruet-e-Halal committee (Pakistan’s official moon-sighting body), which is set to sight the moon today.
