Gofrixty [24 July 2025] – Another round of peace talks was held this week between Russia and Ukraine in a neutral setting. Diplomats from each country came with cautious expectations. There was a swapping of ideas, important points on territoral control, exchange of prisoners and security guarantees were dicussed.
Ukrainians negotiators pressed for a full pullback of Russian forces from occupied land. They stressed the need to recover full sovereignty. Ukraine also sought an international security guarantee to avoid future escalations.
But Russian officials refused to release control of Crimea. They also demanded Ukraine stay neutral and not join NATO in the future. The Russian side concentrated on rolling back the Western economic sanctions and defending Russian-speaking citizens in eastern Ukraine.
The meeting was mediated by Turkey and the United Nations. They urged both sides to keep up dialogue and ease tensions on the frontlines. The talks were observed by Europeans, and reports circulated that some slow but real progress was being made.
