Samsung Galaxy S21FE 5G is a smartphone from the Fan Edition series, which by default is the “lite” version, and yet has everything to be perceived as a flagship. It appeared on the market in early January, so just before the official launch of the Galaxy S22 series. However, it is an interesting alternative for all users who are looking for a cheaper and more “youthful” version of the smartphone. Galaxy S21FE can really like it. What exactly?
Appearance and build quality
Samsung Galaxy S21FE is a very nice smartphone. The back of the S21FE is made of plastic, not glass like the S21. However, this makes the smartphone with FE in the name much lighter than the classic S21 – it weighs only 177 grams.
The housing has a matte texture and is pleasant to the touch – it does not commonly collect fingerprints or smudges. The fit of the materials is exemplary, and the smartphone itself lies comfortably in the hand, despite the fact that it is not small at all. The colors of the S21FE are also attractive, although you can’t talk about any madness here. In addition to the black and white version, we also have a lavender and olive model to choose from.
The smartphone has a waterproof housing with the IP68 standard, which means that you can safely go to the pool with it. It should last 30 minutes underwater at a depth of up to 1.5 meters. These are, of course, laboratory data, so we do not recommend anyone verify them on their own equipment.
It is worth paying attention to the island separated for cameras, which clearly protrudes above the surface of the housing. This means that the smartphone on the table will wobble sideways unless we get the right case. The dimensions of the S21FE are 156 x 75 x 7.9 mm.
Screen
The display in the S21FE is practically taken from the S21 model. Here we find a Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel working at a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels, with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The screen has a diagonal of 6.4 inches, which is larger than the “classic” S21 (there we have a 6.2-inch display). It is also worth mentioning that the front panel is covered with Gorilla Glass Victus – the hardest glass on the market.
When it comes to the parameters of the display itself, these are really very good – just like in the S21 series and the Vivo new model 2023 price in Pakistan. Contrast, maximum brightness, color reproduction – this is the highest shelf, as in the flagship model. The only downside is the lack of automatic adjustment of the refresh rate to the type of image displayed, which is of practical importance in the context of saving battery in some situations. In the S21FE, the refresh rate is either 60 or 120 Hz, so when choosing one value, we must be aware of the consequences.
The screen is devoid of any curves – it is fastened to the back of the housing by a metal frame. There is no notch here, and the “eyelet” of the front camera is ingeniously integrated into the working space of the desktop. The display almost completely fills the front of the phone, which is a great advantage of this model.
The camera
When it comes to photographic functions, Samsung has once again opted for a strong set. The photos taken with the Galaxy S21FE come out insane, in virtually all conditions. I have the impression that thanks to the implementation of new image processing algorithms, the photos are of even better quality than those offered by the S21 (portrait ones for sure). The smartphone is doing well at dusk and in macro mode – it’s really hard to fault anything.
The main camera consists of three lenses: main 12 Mpix f/1.8, ultra-wide-angle 12 Mpix f/2.2, and telephoto 8 Mpix f/2.4. There is a 3x optical zoom and up to 30x digital zoom. The latter – as in most solutions of this type – is primarily to “make an impression”, because it is not very useful due to high noise at higher values. On board, there’s optical image stabilization (OIS) and the ability to record UHD 4K video (up to 60 fps).
Battery, performance, and system
The heart of the Galaxy S21FE is the Snapdragon 888 processor supported by 6 or 8 GB of RAM. Regardless of the chosen configuration, the smartphone can cope with all common everyday tasks. It does not cut off when watching materials on YT, allows you to open several browser tabs, and while playing it does not record frame drops, and the housing itself does not heat up frequently.
Before buying, it is worth considering how much memory for data we will need (128 or 256 GB) because the S21FE does not have a microSD card slot. Galaxy S21FE works under the control of Android 12 with the One UI 4.0 overlay, which is visually attractive and does not attack us with a lot of unwanted applications.
The battery life of the Galaxy S21FE is decent. We find here a battery with a capacity of 4500 mAh, which is larger than the S21 model (4000 mAh), but smaller than the S21+ (4800 mAh).
