Iran Threatens to Withdraw From Nuclear Deal ‘If Europeans Do Not Take Action’

Iran Threatens to Withdraw From Nuclear Deal

Gofrixty [24 July 2025] – Iran has threatened to quit the NPT if the three European powers refer it to the U.N.’s International Atomic Energy Agency over any violations of the 2015 nuclear deal. The warning was issued by senior Iranian figures in response to reports that France, Germany and the UK are expected to activate snapback provisions in the 2015 nuclear deal.

The foreign minister of Iran accused European leaders of buckling under pressure from the United States. Tehran said the initial deal had permitted the peaceful development of nuclear power, and it accused the West of violating the agreement. The officials emphasized Iran has not closed the door on cooperation, but will not be threatened with what they described as “political blackmail.”

The warning follows a discussion between EU diplomats and U.S. officials last week. It has been reported that Western countries are weighing new sanctions against Iran over its nuclear enrichment and missile activity. Iran in turn threatened to pull out of further obligations under the NPT.

Iran’s nuclear chief said that Tehran would increase enrichment if Europe did not uphold the agreement. Iran has lost faith in European pledges following years of what he described as broken promises and double standards, he added.

Iran also called upon the International Atomic Energy Agency to avoid other countries’ pressures. Iranian officials announced they would not accept limitations while Western nations fail to meet their own commitments.

While tensions rise, Iranian members of Parliament call for a more forceful response. They urged the president to take decisive action if the sanctions mechanism is triggered by Europe.

Iran’s threat adds fresh uncertainty to the survival of the nuclear deal. With both taking a tougher line, the region is at risk of returning to high-risk confrontation.
