“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time” and Abdul Majid Mangi found himself in the creativity and at the same time he lost himself in the colours. It’s really hard to call someone an artist until they have something to prove before significant masses. Whereas, displaying the artistic approach, now it is needed to invest two most precious things known as time and money. But Abdul Majeed Mangi was short of both the factors and that was the reason he took too much time to come in front as an artist of Sindh.
Considering the struggle he did and the barriers he faced during all his underprivileged time, Abdul Majeed Mangi just focused on emphasizing his existing skills and learning new skills with the passage of time at a consistent pace. Which really made him a unique and creative artist in the field of painting, sketching, photography, and calligraphy. Before disclosing his fame of being an artist, it is important to know the phases of his life where he struggled and forced to lay-down his creative approach and just live a normal life as others are living in the interior part of Sindh.
Abdul Majeed Mangi was born on 28 March in 1968 at Khairpur Mir’s (A state located in the northern areas of Sindh which joined Pakistan later after the independence of Pakistan and India). He was a proud son of Allah baksh Mangi, a barber by profession. Being a barber is also an artistic work, they are expert in shaping the looks of the individuals best suiting to their personalities. Thus, we can call Abdul Majeed Mangi as a child who took birth at the home of an artistic gene.
Abdul Majeed Mangi was attached to a well professional signboard painter of that time (Ghulam Nabi Farooqi, owner of Modern Art Shop Khairpur) to learn the skill of signboard painting so that when he grew, he should need to be fully prepared to stand by his own and should be able to earn something to eat to his family. But, he took it not only a source of earning the money but as his passion and as an objective of his life. He worked without looking at the clock and learned as many skills as he can from his teacher Ghulam Nabi Farooqi, who was also passionate enough to deliver all that he owns as a signboard painter.
Abdul Majeed Mangi leaned and at the same time practised the signboard, painting, and additionally sketching skills at the Modern Art Shop Khairpur Mir’s, and now it was time to look forward and can go beyond the limits. So he decided to go for NCA (National College of Arts) Lahore. But because of some family problems, he was not able to go to NCA and that forced him to look for some alternatives. So, he preferred to continue as a signboard painter until he got a government job at the age of 23 years.
Only a smiling visitor here to share the love (:, btw great design and style. “Justice is always violent to the party offending, for every man is innocent in his own eyes.” by Daniel Defoe.
