Gofrixty [13 September 2025] – AI, albania in the world by officially naming an artificial intelligence system Thursday as a virtual government minister. The announcement for the latter was made by Prime Minister Edi Rama on September 11, 2025 and “represents a courageous move against corruption and in favor of transparency,” according to Rama. Diella, whose name means “sun” in Albanian, takes on the sensitive portfolio of managing public procurement.
Corruption in contracts and tenders has been a chronic problem for the Albanian government. By letting an A.I. system handle this, “You’ll make it 100% corruption-free,” Rama said. Diella exists to scrutinise tendering, gatekeep and prevent a breach of procedures with no personal interest or political interference. It’s a first of its kind for a country to appoint an AI at this level.

Diella isn’t entirely new to Albania. In January 2025, the government was featured as a virtual assistant on e-Albania digital platform. She handled questions, directed citizens and assisted with online services. Now, she has moved beyond helping people online to juggling real ministerial responsibilities. Officials say the transition will proceed gradually, with human ministries working alongside the AI in initial stages.
