Top-Level Meetings in Washington
Former President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met twice at the White House within 24 hours, most recently on July 9. The back-to-back meetings show growing momentum toward a Gaza ceasefire as diplomats work to end the ongoing conflict.
Ceasefire Deal Nearly Complete
U.S. officials report that the current ceasefire proposal includes a 60-day pause in fighting, the release of 10 hostages, and the return of 9 bodies. The agreement also promises more humanitarian aid for Gaza. Steve Witkoff, Trump’s Middle East envoy, said negotiators have settled three out of four main points, with only one issue holding up the final deal.

Netanyahu Sends Mixed Messages
Israeli officials see the proposal as reasonable, but Netanyahu remains cautious. He says Israel’s military operations are not finished and insists on pressing ahead to weaken Hamas and secure the release of all hostages. During his private talks with Trump, Netanyahu focused on Israel’s security needs and goals that stretch beyond a temporary truce.
