Flood on Indus River in Wake Of Monsoon Rains

Gofrixt [19 July 2025] – There is a medium flood at Kalabagh and Chashma on the Indus River in Punjab after a continuous downpour during the rainy season raised the water level across the region, the authorities said.Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) Officials issued the warning at 3:30am on Wednesday after urging people living in low lying areas of the surrounding Port City to stay ready.

Emergency response teams are worried as water of perilously high speed is passing through both Kalabagh and Chashma barrages. Irrigation and rescue and relief teams have already been press into o service to watch the situation. They have also called on local governments to draw up plans for evacuations if the water level continues to climb.

The Pakistani Meteorological Department (PMD) also forecast more rains in the days to come. Meteorologists think the new weather patterns might aggravate the flood scenario in the Indus and its feeder flows. Emergency alerts have already sounded for susceptible areas, especially where levees are shaky or under stress.

Villagers living on the banks have begun to move to safer places.Police and disaster management officials have set up temporary shelters to accommodate tens of thousands of people driven into the streets. Rescue boats and gear have also been positioned at strategic points in case of emergency.

Provincial officials have told farmers and transporters to take precautions. They cautioned against trying to cross flooded roads or to retrieve belongings from submerged fields. Officials stressed that safety was more important than property and appealed to the public to join in rescue operations.

To this point we have had no significant injuries. But a few villages have had some homes, crops and livestock submerged. Relief efforts are in progress, and government teams still are surveying the damage.

Punjab’s disaster management authority is working hand in hand with the federal government, monitoring water flow originating from the Indus. While rain continues to fall, the authorities are on high alert to avoid any further intensification.
