This change is a relatively small update, but experts say it could alter the way websites vie for visibility and how data is gathered for SEO as well as A.I. training.

Google Ideally, independent of what the user requests in terms of search results, Google will restrict each page to about 10 results. Its parent company has not provided an official reason, but a range of possibilities are starting to bubble up.
But there is also a good reason to minimize mass data scraping. Bulk search results were the lifeblood of many tools and AI developers to gather training data or monitor rankings. Limiting results per page will make naught and slow fetch of this data the harder. Google should also be able to better manage server load and help prevent abuse by bots.
