Flash Floods Hit Gilgit-Baltistan’s Diamer District

Flash floods hit Gilgit-Baltistan Diamer district took lives of four tourists and 15 remain missing. Rescue teams evacuated more than 200 tourists and transported them to Chilas, where local authorities arranged temporary accommodation in hotels and guest houses to ensure their safety and comfort

Rescue teams continue searching for missing tourists, and officials have confirmed the identities of the deceased. The military supports the operation on the ground, and authorities will use helicopters if needed.

Many vehicles stranded as roads blocked due to heavy rain and floods. The floodwaters swept into houses, causing extensive destruction to public infrastructure and agricultural fields.

The NDMA has warned of possible landslides in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, AJK, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Muzaffarabad, Neelum, and Chitral. Citizens are urged to avoid travel to mountainous regions, while local authorities have been told to stay vigilant for any emergencies.

The NDMA reports that, heavy monsoon rains have claimed 221 lives, including 104 children and 40 women, and left over 500 people injured.
