Gofrixty [01 August 2025] – Felix Baumgartner, the Austrian daredevil who shot to fame with his record-breaking space jump in 2012 died following a paragliding accident in Italy during July of 2025. He was 56 years old.
Police in the region said Baumgartner set off on a solo paragliding trip over mountains close to Lake Garda. Witnesses reported that he was flying normally until suddenly going off course and slamming into a hotel swimming pool. Emergency responders came soon after, but they were unable to save him. He was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.
The flight was reported to have been affected by a possible medical emergency for Baumgartner. Though the cause of the crash was still under investigation, officials believe that a medical condition may have caused him to lose control.

Baumgartner caught international attention in 2012 when he jumped from a helium balloon more than 24 miles above the Earth’s surface. He broke the sound barrier with his body on that descent, topping 800 mph. Sponsored by Red Bull, the event made him a household name and won him multiple world records.
