The 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is set to take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico, has caused fears among fans who must obtain visas approved by one of world’s most tightly controlled countries.
In an announcement that has already triggered wide controversy worldwide,US President Donald Trump has introduced a unique visa scheme for fans hoping to attend the tournament, but the initiative comes with one clear warning from his administration: just having a ticket will not mean entry into the country.
The scheme, dubbed “FIFA Pass,” was unveiled in the Oval Office along with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who has maintained a close working relationship with Trump since his return to the White House.
The United States “knows how to provide first-class international services ”for the event, Trump pledged even as critics wondered whether his strict customs policies could pose unexpected snags for overseas soccer fans.
