Rescue teams hurry into neighboring districts, pulling injured people from crumbling houses. Dozens of patients are being treated by doctors in overcrowded hospitals. Volunteers take food and blankets to people waiting in makeshift shelters.
Officials say swollen rivers gutted out bridges and carried off cattle. Resident families are looking for missing relatives while police and army units assist with relief. Local farmers howl over crops the floodwaters destroyed in minutes.
