Gofrixty [29 August 2025] – Spanish actress Verónica Echegui has passed away aged 42 after a “private battle with cancer”. She died on August 24, 2025, at Madrid’s 12 de Octubre University Hospital, with her family, by her side. Her illness had been kept a secret from her fans and many of her colleagues.
Echegui had earned a reputation as one of the most versatile and talented actresses in Spain. She appeared in well-known projects, among them Netflix’s Intimacy, Apple TV+’s Love You to Death and Sky’s thriller Fortitude. She has also starred in feature films such as My Name Is Juani (2006), gaining early praise, The Cold Light of Day (2012), Bunny and the Bull (2009) and Book of Love (2022) opposite Sam Claflin.
Verónica Echegui work brought her four Goya Award nominations from the Spanish Academy of Cinematic Arts and Sciences. Her noted skill in taking on complex roles and putting raw emotion on screen was praised by critics. Her career was successful on both sides and she was able to combine local Spanish works with foreign projects becoming famous in other countries.
