TikTok Removes 24.9M Videos in Pakistan for Policy Violations

TikTok Removes 24.9M Videos

Gofrixty [24 July 2025] –In a significant move showing its increasing dedication towards digital safety and content regulation, TikTok has taken down 24.9 million videos in Pakistan in the first quarter of 2025. The short video platform took the measure as part of its supervision to keep community guidelines, minimize the transmission of harmful or unsuitable content.

Pakistan featured in the list of top five countries in the world for takedowns, according to TikTok’s Community Guidelines Enforcement Report. The deleted videos were deemed to be in violation of the platform’s rules against hate speech, misinformation, harassment, nudity and extremist content. Dozens of the videos were also deleted proactively, before users had the chance to report them.

The company said that it relies heavily on AI-driven moderation tools and local language reviewers to ferret out violative content. “We remain committed to enabling a safe and inclusive platform for our Pakistani users,” a TikTok spokesperson said. “Our moderating system is developing constantly in response to increasing requirements regarding content security and national regulations.”

The report had also mentioned that Pakistan had a high take down rate of these videos, with a majority of the videos being removed on a proactive basis, even in the absence of any user complaints. All this suggests that TikTok is leaning ever more on automation and local knowledge to manage content quickly.

Despite enjoying widespread popularity among Pakistan’s young population, authorities and parents have worried about the potential impact of TikTok. The platform’s frequent takedowns are an attempt to allay such fears, and offer evidence of its adherence to Pakistan’s cyber laws.

It marks the latest bans and warnings to come from Pakistani regulators. By regularly engaging with government policies and aggressively enforcing its community rules, TikTok appears to be trying to maximize its tenure in the country while minimizing any transgression of local mores.

During coming years, as we navigate an evolving digital landscape, platforms like TikTok are likely to operate under an increasing expectation of regulating freedom of expression and individual responsibility.
