Pakistan Approves Wi-Fi 7 for Faster Internet

Public WiFi Applicability: Pursuant to approval granted the ECC, freeuse of already installed ICT infrastructure owned by USF will be allowed for provision of public Wifi services including rural and remote areas (for activation on a PPP basis) during next 10 years. Pakistan has officially approved Wi-Fi-7meaning a substantial move towards enhanced internet speed and reliability throughout the country.

The announcement by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to approve use in the 6 GHz band has made the country one of the earliest in South Asia to embrace this latest generation wireless system.

Wi-Fi 7, or IEEE 802.11be, supports multi-gigabit speeds as well as ultra-low latency and increased stability. It’s built for intense data usage, such as 8K streaming, virtual reality, gaming and AI-powered smart home devices. The upgrade will ensure better connected and faster homes, offices and public spaces as demand for the digital world continues to swell.

The approval is seen as a turning point for Pakistan’s technology infrastructure, experts say. Local industries like e-commerce, online education and remote work will be helped by faster wireless technology and sturdier networks. It will also boost the smart city space as well as enhance IoT (Internet of Things) and connectivity-related applications, including security solutions, automation, and digital payments.

PTA action is in line with the government’s overall digital policy. Aimed at modernizing communication services and ready key cities for 5G roll out. When Wi-Fi 7-enabled routers and devices are common. We can expect to see four times faster speeds when compared with Wi-Fi 6, even in busy locales.

Put simply, the approval means easier streaming, faster downloads. And more reliable connections for millions of Pakistanis — leapfrogging the country a little closer to a connected, digital future.
