Hoping to Visit the U.S.? Prepare to Pay an Extra $250

Hoping to Visit the U.S.?

Gofrixty [25 July 2025] –The U.S. government is now planning to raise the costs of its visas for many international visitors. Tourists and business travelers will be required to pay up to $250 more when applying for certain types of visas under the new rule.

This increase was recently approved by the Department of Homeland Security. Officials said they need further funds to cover costs to process cases and help make immigration services more efficient. The change applies to non-immigrant visas, in particular the B-1 and B-2 categories that most tourists and business travelers apply for.

Many applicants, especially from developing nations, have already voiced concern. What travel agencies in South Asia and Africa are hearing now is that applications are more likely to decline. None of that is good for business, and one agency in Pakistan says a number of clients have delayed or canceled their travel.

U.S. embassies abroad have begun to notify applicants of the shift. Some consular offices even invented new FAQs that would describe just why they were charging higher fees.

The new cost could affect U.S. tourism revenue, travel industry experts say. “If the government jacks the price up too high, maybe less tourists will come,” said a tour operator in New York.

International students also pay more to process visas. Universities fear that this could decrease international enrollment, particularly from low-income countries.

The U.S. government argues that it needs to adjust fees to cover the true cost of processing. The fee increase is aimed at enhancing service speed, security screening and document verification, according to officials.

For now, the change stands. If you intend to visit the U.S., be sure to check the new visa fee before filing the online application because your trip could be a whole lot more expensive than you anticipated.
