Gofrixty [3 September 2025] – A 17-year-old Hongkonger named Chow Sze-lok from St. Mary’s Canossian College created AI name KidAID (Kid Artificial Intelligence for Discovery), an AI system meant to watch over childcare CCTV feeds and identify warning signs of abuse. Her project is now making headlines for taking on one society’s weakest-but-urgent-points — child safety.
KidAID was born out of Chow’s desire to ease parents’ and caregivers’ minds. The package relies on sophisticated algorithms to analyze live video feeds from day care centers. It searches for abnormal movement, aggressive behavior or patterns that could indicate harm. As soon as it picks up on a warning sign, KidAID sends real time alerts for adults to act before things go awry.
Chow conceived the idea after reading reports of abuse at childcare centres. She wished to deploy technology to avert such tragedies. Rather than waiting for incidents to be detected at a later date, her system is designed to continually monitor and respond in real time. Through the power of surveillance and machine learning, she hopes to make vulnerable children safer.
