Gofrixty [13 August 2025] – Kim Keon-hee is the wife of former President Yoon Suk Yeol, was apprehended in South Korea. Special prosecutors have accused her of corruption, stock manipulation, bribery and attempted candidate selection. A court ordered her arrest after prosecutors argued she was proven capable of evidence tampering.
Kim is held in a solitary cell at Seoul’s Nambu Detention Center where she sleeps on a mattress on the floor and has also been provided with limited personal time, but is given regular meals and goes through prison routines. She is still detained, along with her husband who is being charged with rebellion and declaration of martial law. It is the first time in South Korea that a former presidential couple has been sent to prison.
According to prosecutors, Kim has used her political and financial power during her presidency as well. They describe her as the mastermind of a plot to inflate shares prices, claim she took tens of thousands of dollars in bribes — among them Prada handbags and an even pricier necklace — and accuse her of having a say over candidate selection within his party.
