Azerbaijan Confer Patriotic War Medal upon Field Marshal Asim Munir

 The ceremony was held at General Headquarters where Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has been awarded the Patriotic War Medal of Azerbaijan. The award was presented on behalf of President Ilham Aliyev by Colonel General Karim Valiyev, the First Deputy Minister of Defence and Chief of General Staff of Azerbaijan. The award is in recognition of his outstanding services to step up military cooperation between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

The COAS greeted and welcomed to Pakistan to JSC Valiyev, who in turn was presented a guard of honour by a contingent comprising all three services at GHQ. The Prime Minister visited the Mazar-e-Quaid and laid a floral wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada to offer fateha for Pakistan’s martyrs. The two defence satraps also had wide-ranging deliberations on global and regional security matters. Reaffirming their commitment to deepen defence collaboration with a view to enhancing regional peace.

General Colonel Valiyev appreciated the professionalism and operational achievements of Pakistan armed forces during recent operations. He also exchanged best wishes for Pakistan Day and Victory Day of his country. He also articulated interest in increasing joint military exercises, information sharing and defence- production cooperation.

The Patriotic War Medal, established in 2002, is awarded to those who perform exceptional service to Azerbaijan in developing its defence potential and building international military cooperation. The presentation to Asim Munir is a handy reminder of that latter trend.

Military cooperation between Pakistan and Azerbaijan has expanded over the last few years. It is here that both countries carried out military exercises and signed defense agreements. The recent $1.6 billion accord to sale JF-17 Block III fighter jets to Azerbaijan was a landmark deal for Pakistan as well. It was an event that underscored the faith and common strategy that underpin their nearly decade-long alliance.
