Stellantis Shows Off Faster, Lighter EV Battery

Stellantis EV Battery

Stellantis has pushed electric-vehicle technology forward in one giant leap, announcing a new prototype battery with what it says will be faster charging and better performance called Stellantis EV Battery. The French car manufacturer, in partnership with Saft, has created the Intelligent Battery Integrated System (IBIS) that integrates a charger and an inverter into the battery pack itself.

This new and unique design is what separates it from all other battery systems in which the love charger consists of separate heavy parts. In amalgamating everything into one, Stellantis has lopped over 40 kilograms from the test car and freed up space for efficiency. The lighter vehicle not only makes it run faster but also travel further on a single charge.

The coolest part is the Stellantis EV Battery can charge from10–80% in about 6.5 minutes under fast-charger conditions. When fitted to the tested Peugeot e-3008, IBIS cuts charging time by almost an hour and allows a higher charge rate — that’s vital for those who want everyday use of their electric cars with the minimum delay. The integrated system helps support better energy conversion, so that less power goes to waste during charging and driving, meaning drivers get more value from each charge.

The firm says this design could shake up the way EV batteries are made throughout the industry. With a streamlined overall system and less dependence on extra parts, Stellantis aims to cut costs while improving reliability. This method may render future electric cars not only greener but also less expensive and simpler to keep on the road.

The future is big for IBIS under Stellantis. Although the battery is still in its prototype phase, the company claims it’s gearing up to roll out production models that feature the battery before the end of this decade. If successful, that breakthrough could give Stellantis a huge edge in the global race to achieve electric-vehicle supremacy, as competition with Tesla, BYD and other behemoths continues to intensify.

Lighter, faster charging and smartly integrated, Stellantis is making a statement: the era of electric mobility appears to be closer than most thought.
