Trump Will Meet Putin Soon — Even Sans Putin–Zelenskyy Meeting

Gofrixty [8 August 2025] – Former President Donald Trump announcement that he would meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin ‘very soon’ whether or not Putin agrees to see Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Trump brushed aside the notion of a Putin-Zelenskyy summit preceding his own summit. “No, he wont have to,” Trump said when asked if Putin should sit down with Zelensky ahead of an American-Russian summit.“

Trump made it clear what he wanted — violence in Ukraine to end. He argued that neither leader wants war and said he can be a mediator. “Stop the killin’!” “I think we can do that.”

Trump, through sources in his inner circle, has made it known that the former president of The United States wants to see Putin, and aims to do so in the UAE next week. The Kremlin hinted that they were also exploring the idea of holding the summit there. Trump’s team, meanwhile, has dispatched envoy Steve Witkoff to Moscow for a three hour-long meeting with Putin. Trump called those meetings “very good.”

Although interest in a Trump-Putin summit has been growing, it drew an oppositional response from leaders in Ukraine and Europe. Oh no, they fear, Trump will cut a deal with Putin and leave out Ukraine. Leaving Ukraine out of any such top-level talks would set a “dangerous precedent”, President Zelenskyy said, which could undermine the sovereignty of the country.
