Gofrixt [19 July 2025] – French daredevil Michel Fournier, who famously once tried to jump from the edge of space, has been killed in a tragic paragliding accident. The 80-year-old adventure enthusiast loses control during a solo flight in the French Alps, where he trained on a regular basis.
Witnesses observed Fournier launching from a well-known mountain launch point. The conditions were good, but something went wrong in the air. Spectators raised the alarm after seeing his parachute spiral out of control. Rescue crews arrived, however, Fournier was unresponsive. He was declared dead by medical personnel at the scene.
For decades, Fournier had been pushing the boundaries of human endurance and gravity. In the early 2000s, he was widely known for proposing to free-fall from the stratosphere — more than 130,000 feet above Earth — to research the effects of extreme altitude and freefall. While a series of technical failures derailed his record-shattering mission, his mission had inspired skydivers and scientists around the world.
Friends and fellow adventurers remembered Fournier as fearless and dedicated to science and exploration. His family issued a short statement mourning the loss and celebrating his lifelong love of extreme sports.
