Khartoum – Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have killed almost 300 people over the last few days in North Kordofan, a leading human rights group said.The killings are among what appears to be a broader wave of violence in the war-stricken country.
The monitoring group, which tracks human rights abuses in Sudan, said many of the dead were noncombatants, including women, children and elderly people.
Most of the violence centered in and around Al-Fulah, the state capital of North Kordofan.Eyewitnesses said that RSF fighters invaded the villages, looted homes and killed civilians, accusing them of supporting rival groups.
“They came in vehicles with guns — they started shooting at everyone they saw,” said one survivor who escaped to a refugee camp nearby.
The rights group says it believes the RSF is attacking communities based on ethnic and tribal links.Humanitarian agencies say violence could spiral into ethnic cleansing if foreign powers don’t step in.
