The restriction, which ran for several months, led foreign carriers to cancel international flight routes and resulted in fewer over-flight revenues generated by airlines. The regulator said that airlines had to reroute flights around Pakistan, leading to a “substantial increase in operating costs” for carriers and decreasing the number of aircraft using Pakistani airspace by 40-50 percent.
