Gofrixty [22 July 2025] – President Trump ordered a release of more than 230,000 pages of documents related to the 1968 assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The F.B.I., C.I.A., Justice Department and National Archives combined efforts to prepare and transfer the documents.
The newly released papers are internal F.B.I. reports, C.I.A. intelligence cables and handwritten notes from agents on the case. They also made public transcripts of interviews with James Earl Ray and records of his international flight and arrest.
Martin Luther King III and Bernice King read through some of the material before its release to the public.Both attended Chicago Street grade school; both were disappointed with the U.S. government’s initial inquiry, and each voiced suspicion about whether James Earl Ray was a lone gunman.Civil rights organizations as well criticized the government’s delay in disclosing the complete details of how King died.
