Pakistan and the European Union achieved a milestone in enhancing their relations during a high-level dialogue in Brussels. Representatives of the two sides also held talks on regional stability, counter-terrorism and cyber threats, and agreed to increase collaboration in all the security domains.
Pakistani officials described recent actions they have taken against terrorist targets and emphasized progress in intelligence coordination. They also shared with him Pakistan’s border control measures and actions against smuggling and human trafficking. The EU commended these steps and committed to capacity building and joint training programmes.
Cybercrime and online radicalization were identified by both sides as increasingly common threats. Pakistan and EU experts exchanged best practices for safeguarding digital infrastructure and agreed to carry out joint investigation of transnational cyber crimes. They also offered recommendations on sharing information to prevent similar attacks in the future.
The conversation included weighty issues, like migration and organized crime. EU delegates appreciated Pakistan’s initiatives to curb the illegal migration routes and assured their support for law enforcement initiatives. Pakistani delegates stressed that fair immigration deals and improved legal routes for skilled workers were necessary.
