Northern lights could potentially be sighted for a second night in a row in UK

second night in a row in UK

Gofrixty [03 September 2025] – Aurora-hunters across the UK braced themselves for a second night of stunning Northern Lights after a powerful solar storm illuminated the skies in rich hues. People in Scotland, northern England and even parts of Wales managed to take stunning photos of purple, green and red auroras on Sunday night.

A burst of solar activity, experts said, sent charged particles heading toward Earth, which interacted with the planet’s magnetic field — and, well, you know the rest. Clear weather in many places provided millions of people a chance to see the phenomenon, even those who live well beyond the Arctic Circle.

The Met Office has promised that solar conditions are still high and there is a prospect of another night of Northern Lights. “The storm rages on, so much of the UK has another chance,” a spokesman sighed.

In the southern hemisphere, families assembled under open skies, at coastal locations and on mountain tops to experience the lights. Photographers shared glowing skies over both cities and the countryside, and social media was awash in its light.

Scientists said such activity occurs only a few times in a solar cycle, lasting about 11 years. Astronomers urged people to look again on Thursday night, especially in dark regions.

Barring cloudy skies, residents may see another stunning streak in the sky extending from Scotland in the north, down through sections of England and Wales.
