Great Scottish Run Child Events Called Off Due To Weather Warning

‘Great Scottish Run’ organizers decided to call off all child events when the weatherman issued a storm warning for Glasgow. After consulting an updated forecast all teams are known to have emailed advisers in the early hours and suggested this rash decision.

The kids were supposed to be racing runners at Glasgow Green, but due to heavy rain and strong winds the circuit was under threat from both sides. Barriers were taken down by volunteers and tents cleared out, families were briefed before people started to gather at the starting line. Text alerts were issued to parents, and staff were announcing the decision on loudspeakers across the park as well.

Many children were obviously disappointed, saying “It’s no fun”, but at least organisers persuaded families to be safe and enjoy the main race on Sunday. The public health departments also agreed with the decision, saying that stamina in storm conditions would lead to accidents amongst runners and spectators.

Sponsors promised to honor registrations by providing refunds or credits for future events. Local police and emergency services supported the move and focused on adult competition.

However, with this momentum The Great Scottish Run will continue as scheduled and include the 10K and half marathon races. Organisers expressed confidence that people could still bring community shared values into play no matter how well they know their neighbours, which is what Scotland’s largest running festival is all about.
