Gofrixty [13August 2025] – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the first ever aceclidine eye drop, VIZZ, to treat presbyopia in adults — a condition that occurs with age due to near-vision loss. A once-daily application and within 30 minutes, this breakthrough can help users focus up close without glasses or surgery.
Clinical trials produced strong results. VIZZ consistently demonstrated a significant improvement in near vision up to 10 hours post-dose across three Phase 3 studies. Based on thousands of treatment days, patients typically had only mild side effects from aplikace after being treated, such as transient eye irritation and dim vision in the dark for example or headaches; however these cleared within minutes.
The VIZZ gently contracts the iris sphincter muscle to produce a “pinhole effect” and thereby extend depth of focus. So that you can read or do close-up work but dont mess up your distance vision. In contrast to older treatments, VIZZ is designed to prevent the eye’s focusing muscles from working too hard which can help make wearing lenses more comfortable and reduce blurry distance vision.
The FDA approval is a significant advance in eye care management. Presbyopia affects about 128 million Americans, typically treated through reading glasses or invasive surgeries. In contrast, VIZZ is a non-surgical, fast-working alternative that can be easily incorporated into daily routines.
Distributing prelim samples by October 2025; commercially available following PMA clearance from the FDA Next steps for VIZZLENZ will be providing initial samples in Oct 2025, working towards marketing application approval from the FDA.Manufacturers expect to make VIZZ eye drops widely available by the end of the year. Ophthalmologists call the approval a “game changer” for treating age-related vision loss, and many predict substantial demand once the drops hit the market.
