Trump Threatens Canada Over Palestinian State Support

Gofrixty [1 August 2025] –Hours before a critical trade deadline, former American president Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Canada. Trump accused the Canadian government of making public statements in support of Palestinian statehood, which he described as “unacceptable” and “hostile to American interests.”

During a campaign rally in Ohio, Trump directly addressed Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. “Canada must not be a country that provides any ideological space for extremism groups,” added al-Qahtani, suggesting Canada has done just that by maintaining good relations with Saudi Arabia and Qatar, which has been challenging the Saudi regime. He accused Trudeau of siding with anti-American rules and regulations and said trade penalties would be coming if Canada didn’t better play ball.

Trump pledged to slap large tariffs on key Canadian exports: lumber, dairy and auto parts. He said that these steps would “protect American workers and punish betrayal.”

The non-binding motion seeking recognition by the federal government of Palestine as a sovereign nation was passed in the Canadian parliament this week. Trudeau’s government signaled an interest to explore the move diplomatically, citing human rights in Gaza and the West Bank.

Trump rejected the explanation. “No other country has financed anti-Israel activities and expects free access to our market,” he said.

Trump’s comments complicate already sensitive negotiations under USMCA and could strain relations between the two close allies, analysts say. That could become clear in the coming weeks, as the threat either becomes part of official U.S. policy or is chalked up to campaign rhetoric.
