Nepal Protest Turn Deadly as Former PM’s Wife Burned Alive

Nepal protest has plunged the nation into turmoil, bringing violent clashes and widespread destruction. Rajyalaxmi Chitrakar, the wife of former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal, was among the victims who lost their lives in the violence.Demonstrators reportedly forced her back into her Kathmandu home before setting it on fire.Doctors rushed her to Kirtipur Burn Hospital in critical condition, but she later died from her injuries.

The unrest began after the government imposed an unexpected ban on social media, a move that suddenly cut off millions of Nepalese working abroad from their families back home.

Violence has claimed at least 22 lives so far, and it has left hundreds of others injured. Protesters torched the parliament building and stormed the residences of senior leaders, including President Ram Chandra Paudel and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Smoke and flames forced Kathmandu’s airport to halt some flights, further adding to the chaos.

Under intense pressure, Oli stepped down from office after consultations with the Nepal Army Chief. But his resignation has done little to calm the public. Instead, tens of thousands continue to defy curfew orders, demanding accountability and a new political roadmap.
