So everywhere you look in this 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup has been touched by history; and Sunday’s India v defending champs Australia final was no different.
After South Africa thrashed England to reach the final, the hosts’ India produced an equally good performance in making only their third Women’s ODI World Cup final appearance ever by defeating defending champions Australia in what can only be described as history.
Who can say which of these national teams will pass on new records if they happen on Sunday? The final is also historic because it will mark the first time in a Women’s ODI World Cup since England and Australia did not provide both finalists. As a matter of fact, since this event began in 1973 one or the other of these two countries has contested every final. Australia has won seven times and England four. The only other womens cricket team to win the World Cup is New Zealand ( in 2000 ).
