Haj Pilgrims to Get Refunds Up to Rs. 110,000 Under Govt Scheme

The government has started refunding some Rs 3.45 billion to pilgrims who performed Haj this year under the regular government scheme.

The Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousuf announced the development.

Shades of between Rs. 12,000 to Rs 110,000 will be refunded between 75% (66,000 people out of 84,960) by October 31.

Reimbursements will not be made to the remaining 25 percent of pilgrims (approximately 21,900) who stayed in better quarters and had better services.

A cost breakdown of reimbursements made available by the ministry shows that 16 % of the pilgrims will get Rs.25,000 and 12 % will receive Rs 90,000 while 408 individuals are each entitled to Rs 110,000.

He added that this was no longer the case for pilgrims were now given air conditioned accommodations at Mina, built with gypsum walls and collapsible beds.

He said that the regular scheme this year had raised the Haj quota by 30,000, while both government and private packaging arrangements have been made.

Costs for the coming Haj have been set at Rs. 1.2 million a short stay package and Rs. 1.15 million for a 40-day package.

Pilgrims must also between November 3 and November 15 put the second portion of Rs 650,000 into banks authorized for the purpose.

Between 300 and 600 free minutes of internet access use, each pilgrim will also get a Saudi SIM card.
