Gofrixt [18 July 2025] – A UK defence official sent an email inadvertently revealing the names of British spies and special forces.Contained within the error were details of Afghan allies as well as the names, phone numbers and email addresses of more than 100 British nationals.
These were people who had developed close relationships with Afghan interpreters and military contacts in the course of the war.
The leak occurred as the Afghan relocation effort was unfolding.Applicants applied to ARAP through the government’s Ministry of Defence. The official also attached the entire list in an open email without secure transmission.Once posted online, the file was disseminated and among social media users.
The leaked file included details of intelligence officers, SAS soldiers, government staff and senior military figures. These individuals didn’t expect their private selves to wind up on the internet. They now have serious enemies who might attempt to seek them out.
The British government then came up with a contingency plan when it learned of the leak. Officials moved a small group of Afghan families to Britain and informed British staff about the risk.
