Backing for ‘Scottish Visa’ Increases and Fury at Abuser’s Bid for Release

Backing for ‘Scottish Visa’

Gofrixty [22 July 2025] – Political leaders and campaigners from around Scotland have thrown their weight behind an initiative for a ‘Scottish visa’ to try and plug labor gaps and transform the economy. The Scottish Government floated the plan as part of a recent parliamentary statement, calling on Westminster to give Holyrood increased immigration powers. Ministers hope the new visa will help Scotland attract talented workers who could work in key roles in health, farming and the tech industry.

The first minister, Humza Yousaf, voiced strong support for the proposal, stating that Scotland needed to take control of its workforce planning. Business owners in rural areas hailed the move, saying many farms and small businesses flounder for want of seasonal and permanent labor.Several groups, including the Scottish Chamber of Commerce, joined the call and urged London to show flexibility in the immigration policy to address Scotland’s particular requirements.

With that, public outrage flared after a convicted abuser submitted a new appeal for release from prison. Victims’ rights organisations decried the decision and said survivors’ traumatic experiences had been ignored by the justice system. The man who served only half his sentence now wants to walk the streets a free man following new parole laws. Protesters declared outside the parole board office that authorities must keep him locked up.
