Tehran – Iranian intelligence authorities say nuclear inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have embedded microscopic surveillance devices in the country’s sensitive nuclear centers without their permission. The officials say that they discovered these devices during internal security checks.
The devices were operational and intended to automatically send real-time information, Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence said. They called the act an “untrustworthy and illegal” seeking to violate the sovereignty of the country and escape punishment for their actions.
Iran Says Espionage, Not Inspection
A senior Iranian officer publicly accused the inspectors of overstepping the bounds of their authority. “These inspection visits are becoming spying tours. We signed an agreement for transparency, we did not sign an agreement for surveillance,” he said.
Officials suspect that the devices were aimed at gathering more than just nuclear information.I suspect that other countries already have access to what is being transmitted.
IAEA Maintains Silence
(I am not aware of any official IAEA response.)But diplomatic sources in Vienna said there are continuing internal discussions. The agency might soon issue a formal announcement.
