Ramadan Kareem Meaning

According to Islamic scholars, the name Ramadan comes from the Arabic word for “to fast”. The month of Ramadan is a time to focus on self-reflection and repentance and to grow closer to Almighty Allah. During Ramadan, Muslims are also encouraged to give back to the community by helping others in need.

Ramadan Fasting Rules

During Ramadan, Muslims are required to fast from sunrise to sunset. However, there are a few exceptions to this rule. Muslims who are sick, travelling, pregnant or breastfeeding should not necessarily fast. Additionally, children who are less than six years old and adults who are unable to fast due to illness or an injury may also not necessarily fast. Although, they require to go for its alternatives as per guided by Islamic sharia and law. Ramadan fasting is compulsory to observe by all Muslims.

Dua for fasting

Muslims are encouraged to perform a series of duas during Ramadan fasting. These duas are required to help Muslims focus on their prayers and improve their spiritual health. Similarly, there is also a dua for fasting and it is stated as follows:

وَبِصَوْمِ غَدٍ نَّوَيْتَ مِنْ شَهْرِ رَمَضَا

Wa bisawmi ghadinn nawaiytu min shahri ramadan

Translation: I intend to keep the fast for tomorrow in the month of Ramadan

dua for breaking fast

Just like a dua for fasting, there is also a dua for breaking fast. And it is stated as follows

اللَّهُمَّ اِنِّى لَكَ صُمْتُ وَبِكَ امنْتُ وَ عَلى رِزْقِكَ اَفْطَرْتُ

Allahumma inni laka sumtu wa bika aamantu wa alayka tawakkaltu wa ala rizq-ika-aftartu

Translation: O Allah! I fasted for You and I believe in You and I put my trust in You and I break my fast with Your sustenance
