Ramadan is a holy month of fasting for the Muslims, the followers of Islam. Fasting is one of the five fundamental principles of Islam.
It is celebrated as the month during which Prophet Muhammad SAW received the initial revelations of Quran, the holy book.
The most important aspect of fasting is niyyah, which means intention and Muslims must have strong niyyah during fasting they must not simply or accidentally abstain from food.
Islam encourages us to perform the actions of generosity and compulsory charity and Muslims believe that Ramadan teaches us to practice self-discipline, self-control, patience and sacrifice. Fasting gives a person patience and keeps away from many evils.
Fasting was made obligatory for the Muslims during the month of Ramadan, As Almighty Allah says in Quran
‘’Oh, you who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that you may learn piety and righteousness’’
