Hamas Turns Down U.S.-Brokered Gaza Ceasefire Plan Approved by Israel

Hamas has refused the latest Gaza ceasefire plan put forward by the United States and accepted by Israel. The group says the plan falls short of its main conditions, which focus on a permanent stop to fighting and a full withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza.

What’s in the Ceasefire Proposal?

The U.S. presented a plan that Israel agreed to. It calls for a 60-day pause in fighting, the release of 10 live and 18 deceased Israeli hostages over two stages, and the exchange of more than 1,200 Palestinian prisoners. The plan also aims to allow more humanitarian aid into Gaza to help those in need.

Israel signed off on the agreement, but Hamas leaders say the proposal doesn’t promise a real end to the war or do enough to fix the humanitarian crisis. They argue that a temporary halt in fighting isn’t enough and that the plan lacks clear steps toward lasting peace or relief for people in Gaza.

Why Hamas Objected

A senior Hamas representative said the group will not accept anything less than a permanent ceasefire. He stressed that Gaza needs a deal that stops all military actions for good and provides real help to people living there. Hamas also wants to make sure that any agreement brings a total withdrawal of Israeli forces from the area.

Though Hamas said no to this deal, leaders say they remain open to talks and will consider future offers that better match their demands.

Ongoing Tension and Next Steps

Hamas’s rejection highlights how hard it is to get both sides to agree on key issues like ending the war for good and delivering help to those suffering in Gaza. While the plan showed strong effort from those involved, the lack of common ground keeps progress out of reach.

World leaders are watching, hoping for new talks that can bridge the gaps and bring real solutions for everyone involved.
