Gofrixty [25 July 2025] – France honours its circus hero, Emmanuelle Macron pledges that his country will acknowledge the state of Palestine. “I don’t believe that we can wait indefinitely without advancing the peace process and without allowing Gaza to flourish,” Macron told a press conference in Paris, according to AFP.
France supports a two-state solution in which Israelis and Palestinians live side by side in peace and security, Macron said. He called on Israel to cease expansion of settlements and on Palestinian leaders to rejoin the path of negotiations. “We must act now. To recognise Palestine doesn’t contradict the security of Israel, but is a way to a just and lasting peace,” he said.
France will coordinate with its European partners to see that a similar initiative can contribute to this resolution. Macron says unilateral recognition won’t resolve the conflict but will correct what he sees as skewed international support. French diplomats have already opened discussions with other European countries to drive the process forward.

The French president deplored the ongoing humanitarian situation in Gaza and the failure of the international community to stand up. He also cautioned against ignoring Palestinian rights and voices, which, he said, would only produce more suffering and instability.
Members of the French Parliament and civil society organizations had been calling for the official recognition of Palestine for years. Macron is now rising to fill that demand and sending a powerful joint signal to the rest of the world.
France hopes to stake out a position of influence on Middle East justice issues and plans to use that influence to restart peace talks. Macron was clear: “We will not accept that people will then do nothing. Some such as France have stood firm and thrown their weight behind Palestine with the French Foreign Minister declaring, “We will recognise Palestine because peace requires a Palestinian state.
The move puts France in the vanguard of a new European diplomatic approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
